How to Sell on Bob Shop | Complete Seller Guide

How to sell on Bob Shop

Selling on Bob Shop is a simple process: register as a seller, create a listing, manage bids and purchases, complete the order, ship the item and rate the buyer.

1. Register as a seller

To sell on Bob Shop, you need to have a Bob Shop account. If you are registering for the first time, click Join and complete the required fields.

Once registered, you can become a Basic seller or an Advanced seller. Both seller types can sell using auction and Buy Now.

Anyone can list items on Bob Shop free of charge, although listing fees may apply in some categories. A success fee is charged on goods sold through the site.

2. Create a listing

When creating a listing, choose a selling format:

  • Auction: Buyers bid on your item, with the highest bidder winning when the auction closes, provided any reserve price has been met.

  • Buy Now: Buyers purchase your item immediately at a fixed price.

  • Auction with Buy Now: You can add a Buy Now price to an auction listing.

Add your product details

Create an accurate, relevant title and select the appropriate category and sub-category. Add the item's condition, location and other relevant details.

Set your price and quantity. For auctions, choose a starting price and bid increment. For Buy Now listings, enter your selling price.

Add images and a description

Use clear images that accurately represent the item. We recommend using images of the actual product, particularly for second-hand or refurbished items.

Add a detailed description that gives buyers the information they need to make an informed decision.

Set up your shipping

Shipping is managed through your Shipping settings. Go to My Account > Selling > Shipping settings to set up your shipping defaults, collection addresses, handling time and parcel types. These defaults can be overridden for individual listings when needed.

You can also enable options such as pickup points, customer collection, free shipping and combined shipments, depending on your requirements.

Make sure your handling time is accurate. This is the maximum time you need to have an order ready for courier collection.

Choose your payment options

Select the payment methods you will accept from the options available to you. Some payment methods are obligatory for sellers.

Set your listing duration

Auctions can run for up to 21 days, while Buy Now listings can run for up to 32 days. Unsold items can be relisted.

Once you are happy with your listing, publish it.

Automatic Relisting

Automatic relisting is an option for you to relist what is not sold, or relist the original quantity (if you have the stock on hand). You can choose your automatic relisting option in the drop-down menu.

Info
Note: With automatic relisting, everything (except the quantity, in the case you opted to relist unsold items) remains the same, including the original Boost applied.

3. Buyers bid or buy

Once your listing is live, buyers can find it and either place a bid or buy the item, depending on the options you have selected.

Buyers may ask questions about your item through the Ask a question link on the listing. You will receive an email when a question is asked, so respond promptly to help increase the likelihood of a sale. Contact details may not be shared through the Q&A.

You will also receive notifications when a buyer bids on your item, places a Buy Now order or wins an auction. You can view your questions, bids, orders and sales under My Account.

Deleting a bid

Sellers can delete a bid only in certain circumstances, such as when:

  • The bid is unrealistically high compared with the previous bid.

  • The buyer has a history of not fulfilling transactions.

  • The seller has made an error on the listing.

  • The buyer has requested that the bid be deleted in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act.

To delete a bid, go to My Account > Selling > Open items, select View bids, click Delete, choose a reason and submit.

Warning
Note: Bob Shop reserves the right to take appropriate action if this facility is misused.

4. The buyer completes the order

Once a buyer has purchased an item or won an auction, they need to complete the order.

You will receive an email notification when an item is sold and when the buyer has paid through the Bob Shop system.

Info
Tip: Only ship the item once you have confirmed that payment has been received.

During checkout, the buyer will:

  1. Confirm their delivery address.

  2. Review their order.

  3. Have shipping calculated.

  4. Select a payment method.

  5. Complete payment.

You can view your orders and sales at any time under My Account > Selling.

5. Pack and ship the order

Once payment has been confirmed, prepare the order for shipping. Go to Selling > Sales and find the relevant order. For orders with valid payment, select Book courier*.*

Choose the appropriate parcel type and select Get courier rates to view the available options. Select your courier and book the shipment. You can then download and print the waybill.

Bob Shop's shipping system will provide updates as the parcel is booked, collected, sent for delivery and delivered. Buyers receive automatic shipping updates too.

You can book shipments directly through Bob Shop without opening a separate courier account. Available courier options are shown during the booking process.

Make sure the parcel's weight and dimensions are accurate when booking. Shipping fees are charged to your seller account based on the shipment details provided. You can view the latest shipping rates in your Shipping settings.

6. Rate the buyer

Once the transaction is complete, you can rate the buyer.

Bob Shop encourages its users to rate each other. Buyers should rate sellers based on service and product quality. Sellers should rate buyers depending on ease of transaction and prompt payment. There are three kinds of ratings: positive, negative and neutral.

Sellers typically rate buyers based on factors such as prompt payment and the overall ease of the transaction. Ratings can be left from your My Account section or through the relevant link in your order email.
